The Equality Act 2010 brought together existing anti-discrimination legislation concerning sex, race, disabilities and other characteristics under an umbrella Act. This was in order to protect individuals from prejudice and unfair treatment either as employees, service providers, or customers.
Why is Equality and Diversity training important?
Equality and Diversity training allows organisations to combat discrimination by raising knowledge and awareness among their employees.
Current laws provide a degree of protection to individuals that are discriminated against or harassed in the workplace. However, educating all employees on the benefits of equality and diversity is equally as important in creating a culture of inclusivity and tolerance in the workplace.
Employers should make sure their employees are fully educated on the law as well as the sensitivities of discrimination for the affected individuals.
This Equality and Diversity training course provides knowledge of the law and the protection it provides as well as the different types of discrimination that can occur in a work environment. The benefits of equality and diversity training include the increased confrontation and reduction of workplace bullying, harassment, or discrimination by providing employees with the knowledge of what to do when encountering (or witnessing) prejudice or mistreatment.

Course Content
Public sector Equality Duty – An overview of The Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011, and what ‘specific duties’ are.
Company policy – Equality & diversity policy duties and advice for employers and employees.
The 9 ‘protected characteristics’ – Race, Disability, Sex, Gender Reassignment, Age, Sexual Orientation, Religion/Belief, Pregnancy/Maternity, and Marriage/Civil Partnership.
Types of discrimination – Direct, indirect, perceptive, by association, harassment (including 3rd party) and victimisation.
This course contains test questions and issues a certificate upon completion.
